Pete Bowers


Pete Bowers caught the broadcasting bug as a sophomore at Central Michigan University in 1973. He started with a 3-7 a.m. air shift on the campus carrier current AM radio station WCHP. After graduating with a Broadcast and Cinematic Arts major, he landed the WBFH Station Manager gig at the non-commercial, educational FM station licensed to the Bloomfield Hills School District in 1976. He’s been teaching radio broadcasting and electronic media classes there for over 34 years. He’s been an active member of the Michigan Association of Educational Broadcasters since it’s inception in 1977 currently serving as president. In July, 2010, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation. He also has a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership. Bowers has been the featured speaker on high school radio at broadcasting conferences in Lansing, Grand Rapids, New York, Chicago and Las Vegas. He is a consultant for high school radio programs.

Bowers is proud to say that his students were named the 2011 MABF High School Station of the Year for the seventh time. They also have won 1st Place, Best High School Station in a national competition entitled The John Drury High School Radio Awards in 2010 for the fourth time.

On March 24, 2011, Bowers received the Distinguished Service Award from the school board for his dedicated service to the school district. Video of DSA can be found at YouTube channel "TheBiff881". More info about PB can be found at www.petebowers.com.
